Currently, several layers are still in the ‘shock’ stage probably due to the long travel and it may take more weeks or even a month to ‘de-stress’ the layers so that all 48 layers in a set will lay eggs on a regular basis.
The feeding regimen had been posted in each chicken house and only 1 caretaker is in charge of feeding to minimize stress. Other members have their own regular assigned tasks (cleaning, recording and marketing). Meanwhile, the SAC and the parish teams continue to monitor the project and regularly communicate with PILMICO for technical assistance.
The SAC also envisions integrating the egg laying project with organic vegetable production, thus it intends to train women beneficiaries on organic vegetables and to
utilize the chicken manure as organic fertilizer. This engagement would necessarily diversify production and rural income.
This project is relatively new and of small scale but the women groups are already generating an initial income from the sales of the eggs for local consumption. How to sustain their interests to make this project work on their own is a challenge that the SAC has recognized.
Project Bagong Araw (PBA) was launched April 2014 to address the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda. The project provided Nanay (mother) micro-entrepreneurs the assistance they needed to rebuild what they lost in the typhoon. It included training, access to capital via partner microfinance institutions and a store makeover. January of 2015, our first 354 Nanays from Visayas graduated from the program and 22 of them became Hapinoy Ambassadors.
Executive Summary: Hapinoy Project Bagong Araw began its groundwork last April 2014. Month 1 of the Program had to be moved one month later to facilitate last minute Donors and to further iron out details with the partner Microfinance Institutions (MFI). Project Bagong Araw Month 1 formally happened on June 2014 where MVF started to train potential beneficiaries. By the start of July 2014, all the slots sponsored by Donors have been filled-up by qualifying beneficiaries, after MVF and the partner Microfinance Institutions’ (MFI) validation process. Towards the end of July 2014, three weeks later than projected completion, all the first tranche of the loans to the beneficiaries have been disbursed.
The Mother of Perpetual Help, Redemptorist Davao Mission Community, under the supervision of Bro. Carlito M. Gaspar CSsR, solicited the help of Tanging Yaman Foundation in providing Solar Lamps to Sarangani Manobo Lumads and a few B'laan living in five sitios in two barangays of Davao Occidental. The solar lamps would aid the Manobo-B'laan in pusuing their application for a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT); which could somehow hopefully hinder the exploitation and alienation that they have reportedly been encountering in their lands. There being no electricity in their barangays and working the fields to plant in the day time being imperative for survival; their only time to come together and meet as one community is after dark after they would have seen to their families food and living needs.
