The objective of shelter rehab projects is not just to restore normalcy but to provide safer and more dignified housing. The family of Richard Bonjan of Sitio Cansagang, Brgy Danicop has just moved into their new house after the blessing by Fr. Ulysses Dispo, parish priest of St. Isidore Abachanan, Sierra Bullones, Bohol.

TYF is funding the construction of 30 shelter units in the Diocese of Talibon, Bohol, one of more than 40 Odette rehab projects all over the Visayas and Mindanao. We thank the Talibon Social Action Center for managing the shelter project in the diocese. AM+DG

When Supertyphoon Odette made landfall in Ubay in December 2021, one of the casualties was the 66 year old wooden building of the Holy Child Academy of Ubay, Bohol. The roof and walls were blown off, leaving only the pillars of the second floor intact.

Holy Child Academy, which serves more than 1,000 high school students, started constructing a new building in June 2022. TYF’s P1-M donation helped complete the building’s P9.5-M budget.

Through the pictures sent by school director Fr Jojo Gudes every week, TYF is able to track their progress– the foundation laid out, then the trusses went up, walls next, workers in a constant whirl of activity.

Fr Jojo has just confirmed that construction will be finished at the end of February 2023.

When we first appealed for help for the tomato farmers, we were delightfully surprised at the response of donors. Within an hour of posting our appeal, donors immediately committed funds for the first ton! Who would have thought that at the end of the week, we would gather enough funds to purchase more than 27 tons?

Through your generosity, we were able to support not just the farmers but also the thousands of indigent families assisted by the parishes and feeding programs as well as persons deprived of liberty. We are also deeply grateful to parish volunteers who sometimes worked way into the night to ensure quick distribution to families in need. AM+DG
