Another House Blessed & Turned Over through the Balay Igsuonay Project

After a brief break to focus on Lenten activities, the Immaculate Conception Parish of Baclayon, Bohol has resumed construction for its Balay Igsuonay (Solidarity House) project.

Over the weekend, a team of volunteers finished building a house for the extended family of Narcisa Sisican, who was endorsed by the Sta Cruz Pooc Chapel. Parish priest Msgr Harold Parilla immediately blessed the house.

One of the projects supported by Tanging Yaman Foundation Supertyphoon Odette rehabilitation funds, Balay Igsuonay is a testament to the power of faith, solidarity, and action.

Completed Rehab Projects in San Pascual Academy

Surveying the devastation from Supertyphoon Odette in December 2021, Fr Christopher Aupe wrote, “Hope seemed to be nowhere.” All structures had sustained damage.

When the San Pascual Academy of Ubay, Bohol slowly rebuilt the school facilities, TYF responded to Fr Aupe’s call for assistance and provided P302,995.00 for the rehabilitation of the toilets, technical vocational education laboratory, and school stage. Because the school is located beside the St Vincent Ferrer Parish church, its stage was the perfect venue for this year's commemoration of the Last Supper and the Easter salubong.

Daghang salamat to all our donors whose generosity has given boundless hope to numerous schools and reconstruction projects.

The St Vincent Ferrer Parish Team Handumanan sa Ligdong mga Alagad sa Dios (HALAD) Team has been very busy constructing houses for beneficiaries of TYF’s Super Typhoon Odette rehab project, implemented in partnership with the Diocese of Talibon Social Action Center.

The 5th house they built in Purok 7, Brgy Bongbong, Ubay, Bohol was recently handed over to Antonina Curit and her three young daughters.

The parish wrote, “We are so blessed and grateful to Tanging Yaman Foundation for the financial support, and to our beloved Bishop Dan Parcon, D.D. for always inspiring and motivating the DSAC staff of Talibon in this humanitarian endeavor.”

70+ Tons of Rice Sold in TYF Rice Hub in Sampaloc, Manila

One of TYF’s partner rice hubs has just marked one year of operations.

The Most Holy Trinity Parish (MHTP) in Sampaloc, Manila opened its rice hub or bigasan in April 2022. Since then, it has sold approximately 2,800 sacks – around 70,000 kg or 70 tons.

The MHTP is a recipient of an interest-free loan from TYF and Philippine Business for Social Progress - The Hunger Project. By buying straight from farmers associations or rice mills, the bigasan helps Filipino farmers; it also provides urban poor consumers with good quality rice at a more affordable price.

Bigasans are also ideal suppliers for feeding programs and donors of ayuda. For example, MHTP has been supplying rice to Caritas Manila.

MHTP sees the bigasan as an opportunity to earn a modest income to support its feeding program for around 250 homeless and street dwellers who receive packed meals five days a week.

Congratulations on your first year, Most Holy Trinity Parish bigasan!

Last 4 of the 60 Fishing Boats, Blessed and Turned Over!

for_website_Odette_Last_4_Fishing_Boats.png

You can tell from the pictures how hot it was on April 19. The blazing sun almost blurs the figures of the small group gathered by the shoreline where Fr Armand Bayron blesses the last four of the 60 fishing boats donated by TYF through the Diocese of Talibon Social Action Center.

Sixteen months after Supertyphoon Odette, many have already recovered from the humanitarian crisis in Bohol. The debris has been cleared; buildings have new roofs. But fishing families who lost their means of livelihood have been slower to rise from the devastation. These boats are a precious resource.

We thank the Diocese of Talibon Social Action Center who coordinated a wide range of rehabilitation projects and the parishes that mobilized volunteer teams for the greater glory of God.
