500kg Kalabasa Para sa Kalye Pag-Asa

Fr Ronnie Santos, director of the Diocese of Cubao Social Action Center, reported on the growing number of people living in the streets -- sometimes entire families at a time. They have organized the street dwellers into a group called Kalye Pagasa and plan to put up a drop-in center beside the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish where they can use a clean toilet and take a shower. They also recognize the urgency of providing livelihood skills and opportunities; in the photos, street dwellers show off the liquid detergent they had been taught to make.

TYF is happy to support community-based projects such as this. The 500 kg of kalabasa donated by TYF were shared during Kalye Pagasa's gathering last Saturday.

Salamat, Fr Ronnie and your DSAC team, for your service which brings joyful hope to the streets.

52.8 Tons of Rescued Kalabasa Distributed in Metro Manila

In seven weeks, through the generosity of our donors, we have rescued and distributed 52.8 tons of kalabasa from Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. We will rescue 30 more tons in the coming weeks.

When we reflect on the generosity of our donors and partners on one hand, alongside the dire need of our farmers, we recall wise Portia’s words in The Merchant of Venice.

The quality of mercy is not strained;
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

Another House for the Balay Igsuonay Project

The Knights of Columbus and other volunteers of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Baclayon, Bohol have again finished constructing another house for the Balay Igsuonay project. Parish priest Msgr Harold Parilla blessed the house upon turnover on May 23.

This time, the beneficiary is Eric Orhen, his wife, and their four young children.

In May, when the parish is busy with festivals, and despite the stifling summer heat but also fierce rain, the parish volunteer workers persevered in their effort to provide a safer and more durable shelter to a family in the area covered by Guiwanon chapel.

Balay Igsuonay is a partner of TYF's Supertyphoon Odette rehabilitation project. TYF committed funds to construct 18 houses in the parish.

HELP RESCUE MORE KALABASA

Farmers are unable to sell their harvest of kalabasa and recover their production expenses. Since April, we have bought 43.4 tons of kalabasa directly from farmers in Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. Help us rescue more.

7 Tons Rescued Kalabasa Distributed to 7 Dioceses in NCR

Kalabasa farmers continued to plead with us to purchase their harvest. On June 9-10, TYF donated a total of 7 tons to 36 parishes in the Dioceses of Antipolo, Cubao, Kalookan, Novaliches, Pasig, and Parañaque and the Archdiocese of Manila. Some of these parishes were meeting TYF for the first time, and it’s great to have their support in reaching out to more communities in Metro Manila and Rizal.
