Another weekend, another house constructed in another island.

This house was built for the family of Francisco Cabugason in Calituban Island, one of the island-barangays covered by the Blessed Trinity Cathedral in Talibon, Bohol.

Construction materials had been ferried to the island the previous week. Last Friday, ten members of the core group arrived to work on the flooring and roof. The following day, eight more carpenters and 15 women volunteers followed to help cook and finish the house.

The Diocese of Talibon is one of TYF's key partners for Super typhoon Odette rehabilitation projects in the province, and is coordinating the construction of 37 new houses in various parishes.

Blessing & Distribution of 6 Fishing Boats in Negros Occidental

In late October 2022, Severe Tropical Storm Paeng left consequential damage on both farming and fishing communities in the Diocese of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental. Livelihood rehab was going to be a priority.

After consulting the communities, TYF’s partner the Diocesan Social Action Commission (DSAC) resolved to provide piglets and funding assistance for vegetable farmers.

The DSAC also arranged for the construction of six fishing boats for affected families in Isio, Cauayan. On March 16, the boats were blessed by DSAC Director Msgr Rolex Nueva and St Francis Borgia Parish Priest Fr Eryl Agus, and immediately distributed to the families.

TYF is grateful to Msgr Rolex, Fr Eryl, and their hardworking team of volunteers on the ground.

Thank you, Lenten Almsgiving Donors!

On behalf of the 3,234 jeepney and tricycle drivers who received 5 kg packs of rice from March 7-9, we thank our generous donors who made this project possible.  Our hearts are full and grateful.

P2.25M Housing Project in Argao, Cebu

When Super Typhoon made landfall just two towns away from Argao, Cebu, the damage in the area was catastrophic.

Cebu Caritas’s housing project in Cansuje, an upland barangay in Argao, is determined to build back safer. This is why they make sure the foundation is solid, the roof durable, and the walls are made of cement until mid-height and the rest made of marine plywood. The house itself is just a single room, but with two doors so that the family has an option to build an extension when it has more resources.

In selecting beneficiaries, Cebu Caritas selected those with vulnerable members of the family: elderly and chronically ill, pregnant or lactating mothers, PWDs, and young children.

The Cansuje housing project is funded by TYF from donations for Odette rehabilitation. TYF provided P2,250,000 for the construction of 31 houses, which have already been completed and turned over to be blessed by Archbishop Jose Palma early next month.

The third Odette-rehab project supported by TYF in Baclayon, Bohol, is the Immaculata High School, a venerable structure more than 50 years old.

After assessing the roof, which was partially but substantially damaged by the super typhoon, the Parish Technical Committee deemed it necessary to replace the entire roof, erect new columns, and install new girders, steel trusses, and purlins.

Construction work commenced even though the school had difficulty raising the entire amount needed for reconstruction. TYF’s donation of P1,287,638 completed the project budget. Immaculata High School expects the reconstruction to finish soon.
