Ongoing Rehab Project in St. Joseph High School Inayauan

The St. Joseph High School Inayauan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, was devastated by Typhoon Odette. The school, founded in 1968, was constructed mainly of wood. Its roof blew off, and its walls caved it. After retrieving files from the debris, the school decided to completely demolish the building and construct it anew.

Fr. Rodel Sampallo, Parish Priest and School Director estimates it will cost P7.8-M to rebuild. Its PTA and alumni associations have lined up fundraising activities to meet this target. Tanging Yaman Foundation has also committed P1,775,232 for rebuilding the high school. AM+DG

Rehab Project in Sipalay, Negros Occidental

When Typhoon Odette crashed its way through Negros Island, the Holy Rosary Academy of Sipalay, Negros Occidental opened its doors to evacuees from two barangays who feared their homes might be flooded. Little did they know that the school itself would suffer severe damage. Three elementary classrooms and the library were totally wrecked; the roof and ceiling of the Junior High School building and TLE room were also destroyed. The school lost books, computers, and TVs.

A Special 3-in-1 building is Currently Under Construction in Northern Palawan

When Typhoon Odette damaged local chapels, the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay Social Action Center (SAC) was determined to build back better, and identified ways to mitigate the people’s vulnerability to disasters.

Near the old San Isidro Labrador Chapel in Port Barton, San Vicente, they are constructing a new chapel that will also serve as a multi-purpose hall and evacuation center for the fishing community.

After SAC Director Fr. Eduardo E. Parińo facilitated an inception meeting to discuss disaster risk reduction concepts and plans for the 3-in-1 structure, some residents helped clear the foundation for the building.

Tanging Yaman Foundation has committed P1.967-M for the 3-in-1 chapel in Port Barton, and possibly two other similar structures in the vicariate.

Rehab Project in Tal-ot, Barili

Construction of the Our Lady of Fatima Chapel inside the Cebu Caritas Farm in Tal-ot, Barili was very close to completion; only the façade was not yet painted. At dawn on December 16, 2021, the Chapel celebrated its first Misa de Gallo with the farming community. Who could have guessed that a few hours later, Typhoon Odette would blow off the roof, completely damage the ceiling, and smash the new stained glass windows? Even the electrical wiring was ripped off.
