Rehab Project: St. Isidore the Farmer Parish

Much of the electricity supply in Bohol comes from Leyte, and the supply is very vulnerable to the impact of natural disasters. When super typhoon Odette struck in December 2021, it took weeks, and in some areas even months to restore electricity. But shortly after, when Tropical Storm Agaton caused significant damage in Southern Leyte in April 2022, Bohol was without electricity again.

Tanging Yaman Foundation donated P360,000 to enable St. Isidore the Farmer Parish in Tubigon, Bohol to acquire a generator set that would power both the church and convent, thus allowing the parish to continue its operations even during the frequent power outages in the monsoon season. In the picture are Fr. Nilo Batausa, Fr. Raindy Alpuerto, Fr. Bing Hussain, and technicians who helped install the gen set on the parish grounds. AM+DG

This enclosed space is useful not just for sports but for gatherings such as the recollection of the Jaro clergy, which the seminary hosts every month, and the regular assembly of theology seminarians from the Visayas.

The seminary will also open the space for the barangay’s use in case of disasters.
Tanging Yaman Foundation donated P1-M to the seminary for the construction of the multi-purpose hall. AM+DG

Rehab Project in Our Lady of Candles Parish, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental

The convent in the Our Lady of Candles Parish, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental was already dilapidated years ago. Fundraising for its renovation was a challenge since the majority of the parishioners were low-income farmers and fishers.

When Typhoon Odette struck, the convent sustained further damage, and even the Bishop of Kabankalan said it would be more cost-efficient to build a new convent than to try repairing the old one. A new convent would cost P4.8-M, according to plans drafted by a local architect/engineer.

Tanging Yaman Foundation committed to donate P2-M for a new convent. Groundbreaking ceremonies last July 8 were attended by the Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council, and Kristianong Katilingban. The Parish is still hoping to raise more donations. AM+DG
